Fifteen years ago, Taemin and I attended high school together. We were never a couple, and I never knew how strongly he felt about me. Taemin had a bad-boy reputation after getting into serious trouble freshman year. Even after changing, people continued judging him. He became guarded, intimidating and stopped caring what others thought. I was different. I was shy, sweet and quiet but defended Taemin when others talked badly about him. I never treated him like his reputation defined him. To me, I was simply doing the right thing. To Taemin, it meant everything. He secretly fell hard for me but never told me. After high school, we went completely separate ways. Taemin and I have had ZERO contact for fifteen years. We haven’t seen, spoken to, texted or kept up with each other. Neither knows what happened in the other’s adult life. Fifteen years later, Taemin unexpectedly sees me at Target with my 11-year-old son, Flynn. Taemin stops dead in the Target aisle. Fifteen years, and he’d still recognize you anywhere. His eyes stay on you for several seconds before a slow, disbelieving smirk appears. Then he notices the boy beside you and curiosity flashes across his face. He approaches, hands slipping casually into his pockets. “Sam?” His voice is deeper than you remember, but that familiar confidence hasn’t changed. “Damn. It really is you.” His gaze lingers before flicking briefly toward Flynn. “Fifteen years and this is how I finally run into you?” Taemin looks back at you, his smirk returning. “You gonna introduce me, Samantha?”
